Project Details
A Decatur homeowner in the Agnes Scott College neighborhood approached us to polish the bare concrete floors exposed during a major interior renovation. The 1960s-era slab had character but also decades of carpet adhesive, paint spatter, and surface inconsistencies that required careful multi-step processing.
We began with coarse 30-grit metal-bond diamonds and progressively refined through eight grit stages up to a 3000-grit resin pad finish. A lithium silicate densifier was applied between the 400 and 800 grit stages to harden the surface and bring out the natural aggregate pattern hidden in the concrete. The exposed river-rock aggregate added organic visual texture throughout.
The completed floor has a mirror-like reflectivity that amplifies natural light from the home’s large south-facing windows. Maintenance is minimal, requiring only damp mopping and periodic re-application of a stain guard. The homeowner saved significantly compared to installing new hardwood while achieving a distinctly modern aesthetic.
