Project Details
A Marietta family near the historic Marietta Square needed to replace their deteriorating asphalt driveway with something more durable and visually striking. They chose a stamped concrete system that would complement their craftsman-style home without the ongoing maintenance cost of natural flagstone.
We excavated the old asphalt, re-graded for proper drainage away from the home, and poured a full 5-inch reinforced slab over a compacted gravel base. While the concrete was still workable, our crew pressed in a large ashlar slate stamp pattern using a charcoal color hardener on top of a sandstone integral color base. Expansion joints were tooled to follow the stamp pattern so they virtually disappear.
The two-tone color combination gives remarkable depth that closely resembles hand-laid slate. We applied a high-solids acrylic sealer with a non-slip additive to protect against tire marks and Georgia’s freeze-thaw cycles. The homeowner gained a driveway that looks like natural stone but will last decades with minimal upkeep.
